Japan is well known for it's unique fashion sense so it shouldn't come
as a major shock to see a fashion trend as different as this emerge in
the 90s. While Americans were wearing baggy clothes during this time, a
fashion style became popular in Japan among girls in their early 20s
known as ganguro. Together with a dark tan and outrageous hair color,
these girls would splash on white concealer as eyeshadow and lipstick.
To complete the look, these ganguro girls would wear platform shoes and
brightly-colored outfits. Miniskirts, multiple bracelets, and stickers
on the face are also common. The fashion trend eventually fizzled by the
time the new millenia hit but ganguro girls can still be seen in Japan.
If this style became popular in your country, would you go ganguro?
